Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Phrasy ("we", "us", the "app") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Phrasy mobile application. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
Account information
You can sign in either with Google Sign-In or with a passwordless magic link sent to your email. Either way we collect your email address; signing in with Google also gives us the display name and profile picture on that Google account, which we use only to show you as signed in. Authentication is handled by our provider Supabase.
Learning data
We store data generated as you use the app, including:
- your progress through episodes, streaks, and saved phrases;
- quiz answers and results;
- text you write in "say it yourself" and "build a phrase" exercises, which is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate feedback;
- your chosen settings (interface language, light/dark theme, notification preferences).
Voice recordings — stay on your device
Shadowing, the duet, and spoken input in the exercises may use your device's microphone. Your voice recordings are processed locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. Duet takes are held in your device's cache only while the duet is open and are deleted when you leave it; we receive nothing but the fact that you completed it. Speech recognition and speech synthesis use your device's built-in (native) capabilities.
Purchases
If you buy a subscription, the transaction is processed by Google Play Billing, and its status is managed for us by RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user identifier. We receive your subscription status (active/expired), but we never receive or store your full payment card details.
Reporting a problem
If you report a problem with a scene or a phrase from inside the app, we receive the message you wrote together with what you were looking at, so that we can find and fix it. Those reports reach our support inbox through the email provider Resend.
Technical data
Like most apps, our servers may automatically log basic technical information (such as a device identifier and timestamps) needed to operate and secure the service.
2. How we use your information
- to provide the core learning experience and save your progress;
- to generate AI feedback on your written answers;
- to manage your subscription and access to premium features;
- to send notifications you have enabled (e.g. the daily reminder);
- to secure the service and prevent abuse.
We do not use your personal data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
3. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the app:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and storage of your account and learning data.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — processes the text you submit in AI exercises to generate feedback. Text is sent for evaluation and is not used to train models on your behalf.
- Google Play Billing — processes subscription payments.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status against an anonymous app user identifier.
- Resend — delivers the problem reports you send from inside the app to our support inbox.
Each provider processes data only as needed to deliver its part of the service, under its own privacy terms.
4. Notifications
With your permission, the app can send local notifications, such as a daily reminder about your episode or the idiom of the day. You can turn these off at any time in the app settings or in your device settings.
5. Data retention
We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data from our systems, except where we are required to keep certain records by law.
6. Your rights and choices
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. To make a request — including deleting your account — email us at support.phrasy@gmail.com. You can also control microphone and notification permissions at any time through your device settings.
7. Children
Phrasy is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
10. Contact us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, contact us at support.phrasy@gmail.com.
